- <p> DIED. Eugene Fodor, 85, peripatetic creator of travel
- guides; in Torrington, Conn. A Hungarian-born free-lance
- writer, Fodor published his first book, 1936 On the Continent,
- a guide to Europe for British travelers, and became a U.S.
- citizen during World War II. Fodor invited readers not only to
- see the sights but also to immerse themselves in foreign
- cultures' different mores. More than 3 million Fodor guides,
- covering 93 countries, encompassing 128 titles and in several
- languages, are sold worldwide each year.
